Job Title: Director of Kids Ministry

Location: Bethel Church, Owatonna, MN

Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Reports to: Adult Ministry Pastor

Role Summary

The Director of Kids Ministry leads a vibrant, gospel-centered ministry for birth–5th grade, championing kids’ discipleship, parent partnership, and volunteer teams so that children encounter Jesus and grow as lifelong followers.

What You will do

Lead Kids Ministry (Midweek & Sundays)

  • Design and lead engaging, Christ-centered environments for K–5 (midweek) and birth–5th (Sundays).                                                                                                                                         
  • Select and implement Biblical curriculum that helps kids understand the gospel thread throughout scripture and how it fits together.
  • Teach kids the Bible in fun and relevant ways helping kids know, love, and follow Jesus.                                                                                                                                                         
  • Build joyful, safe spaces where kids are known, loved, and eager to bring their friends.

Build & Equip Teams

  • Recruit, train, and care for strong volunteer teams; nursery-5th grade on Sundays and k-5th grade on Wednesdays.                       
  • Develop leaders who invest relationally in kids and multiply ministry impact.   
  • Oversee curriculum, communication, registration, and safety procedures.    
  • Coordinate schedules, events, and communication with Student and Adult Ministry teams.

Partner With Parents

  • Equip parents as the primary spiritual leaders in their homes with tools, coaching, and encouragement.                                                                                                                             
  • Communicate clearly about what kids are learning and how families can continue the conversation at home.

Lead Events & Outreach

  • Plan and direct key events (VBS, camps, Christmas, Easter, outreach events).                           
  • Create fun, welcoming on ramps for new kids and families to connect with Bethel and the gospel.

Provide Strategic Leadership

  • Set vision, goals, and strategies for kid’s ministry that align with Bethel’s mission and values.                                                                                                                             
  • Oversee budget, safety systems, and check-in procedures.                                                   
  • Contribute as a collaborative member of the staff team (meetings, planning, cross-ministry alignment).
  • Ability and willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

  • Strong leadership, organization, and team-building skills.                                                             
  • Clear, warm communication with kids, parents, volunteers, and staff.                                           
  • Wisdom and discretion in sensitive ministry situations.                                                               
  • Kids Ministry experience and/or a relevant bachelor’s degree (ministry, education, or similar) preferred.
