Earth Science Teacher

Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Earth Science Teacher to join the Compass Program. The Compass Program serves students who benefit from a highly structured, supportive, and therapeutic educational environment designed to meet academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional practices, the ability to build positive relationships with students, and a commitment to differentiated instruction.

Responsibilities

• Deliver standards-based Earth Science instruction aligned with NYS Next Generation Learning Standards.
• Prepare students for the NYS Regents examination, including laboratory and fieldwork requirements.
• Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans to meet diverse learning needs.
• Maintain accurate and timely student records, including progress monitoring and assessment data.
• Collaborate with special education staff, teaching assistants, counselors, and related service providers.
• Implement classroom management strategies that promote positive student behavior and engagement.
• Utilize data-driven instruction and technology to enhance student learning.
• Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS Certification required, or must be eligible for certification shortly.
• Experience working with students in alternative education settings preferred.
• Knowledge of curriculum, laboratory requirements, and assessment practices.
• Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
• Experience with differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching practices preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
