Speech-Language Pathologist

Speech-Language Pathologist 

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) supports student communication development across all grade levels by assessing, diagnosing, and treating speech, language, voice, fluency, and social communication disorders. As a key member of the special education team, the SLP develops Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, provides direct and consultative services, and collaborates with educators and families to ensure students have access to the general education curriculum and effective communication supports

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assessment and Evaluation

-Conduct comprehensive speech-language evaluations in accordance with IDEA and MN Rule

-Participate in multidisciplinary teams and evaluation planning meetings

-Interpret assessment data to determine eligibility and guide service planning

-Prepare clear, compliant evaluation reports for team and parent review

Intervention and Therapy

-Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on IEP goals

-Provide direct therapy in speech, language, articulation, voice, fluency, and pragmatic language

-Use evidence-based practices and adaptive strategies to meet diverse student needs

-Monitor progress and adjust interventions accordingly

-Utilize assistive technology or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems as needed

IEP Case Management and Collaboration

-Serve as related service provider on IEP teams

-Contribute to the development of annual goals and service minutes in collaboration with the team

-Maintain accurate service logs and progress monitoring data

-Attend and contribute to IEP meetings and student support teams

-Collaborate with general and special education staff to support integration of strategies into classroom instruction

Family and Community Engagement

-Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and support strategies

-Provide education and training to parents and caregivers as needed

-Refer families to community-based resources when appropriate

Compliance and Documentation

-Ensure documentation meets all federal, state, and district requirements

-Maintain records in compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and local guidelines

-Submit Medicaid billing or third-party reimbursement data where applicable

-Participate in due process monitoring or compliance reviews as required

Required Qualifications

- Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) License in Speech-Language Pathology
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY)

Work Environment and Physical Demands

- School-based setting with travel between sites as assigned

-Requires mobility, speech/hearing ability, and frequent student interaction

-May include lifting materials or supporting students with physical needs
