High School Dean of Instruction

A High School Dean of Instruction leads academic growth by designing curriculum, coaching teachers, and analyzing data to improve student achievement. They ensure high-quality, equitable, and rigorous classroom instruction while overseeing professional development, academic systems, and, in some cases, student discipline and compliance.

  • Instructional Leadership: Mentors and coaches teachers, conducts evaluations, and develops professional development plans to enhance teaching practices.
  • Curriculum Development: Leads the design, alignment, and evaluation of curricula to meet state and district standards.
  • Data Analysis & Assessment: Uses student data to evaluate program effectiveness, monitor achievement, and inform instructional improvements.
  • Operational Management: Oversees school-wide academic systems (e.g., grade books), and sometimes manages dual-credit programs or partnerships and assessment coordinator for benchmark and state testing.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Requires a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or a related field.
  • Experience: Requires several years of successful classroom teaching experience and often previous administrative or leadership experience.
  • Certification: Valid administrative or supervisory certification.
  • Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with a focus on equity and data-informed decision-making
