Purpose of Division:
The Finance Division’s mission is to provide dependable, responsive financial services and accurate financial information in a customer-oriented and efficient manner. In doing so, our board of directors, along with internal and external customers and members of the NeighborWorks network, are satisfied knowing that the assets and resources entrusted to us by federal taxpayers and numerous supporters in the private sector are properly safeguarded.
Project Summary:
This project will analyze financial transactions such as vendor payments and expense reimbursements to search for specific trends and patterns. Once identified, the objective will be to determine if the trends can be explained by normal variations in business factors, such as increased operations, changes in the market or industry practices, or compliance regulations. This will allow exposure to real-world application of internal controls on accounting functions and for the person in the position to gain valuable analytical experience.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Analyzing financial reports.
• Performing data testing procedures (duplicate payments, anomaly detection, ratio analysis).
• Reviewing and understanding internal controls.
• Developing professional ethics and investigative documentation skills.
• Observing real-world application of forensic accounting frameworks.
Nature of Work Contacts:
Internal: Finance Division’s Management team.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
The work done on this project will help with decisions made by the Finance Department in the future.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Education:
- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in a related field
- Minimum Education: Rising senior or above
- Minimum GPA of 3.5 or above
(b) Experience:
- At least 3 (+) years of undergraduate-level coursework in a related field of study
(c) Licenses, Certifications:
- N/A
(d) Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Must be a current student enrolled in an accounting, finance, or business-related program at an accredited university
- Analytical thinker
- Highly Detail-Oriented
- Good Communicator

Working Conditions:
(a) Travel:
There will be an opportunity for one week of travel from Aug 10-14 to attend the Miami National Training Institute.
(b) In-Office Requirement:
Hybrid Schedule - Required to work in the office (DC HQ) at least two days a week.
