Purpose of Division:

Corporate Strategy & Impact (CSI) is responsible for strategic planning, corporate performance measurement, program evaluation, data collection and policy, and business intelligence, all of which furthers the coordination and integration of programmatic systems across the functional divisions of the organization. Under the guidance of the CEO and in collaboration with the SVPs of the corporation's divisions, Corporate Strategy & Impact leads projects and processes which are important to the accomplishment of overall corporate strategic goals, with an emphasis on systems or operations which support improved corporate-wide programmatic performance and communications.

The division consists of three distinct but inter-connected business units:

  • Planning and Evaluation is dedicated to improving the organization’s understanding of what drives performance and how to achieve greater impact. The team leads strategic planning and annual goal setting processes and works closely with internal stakeholders to identify and track success metrics and monitor performance against strategic plan goals. The team evaluates the effectiveness of programs and activities to understand what is working, what is not working, and how to make improvements. Senior leadership and program managers across the organization are its key customers. 

 

  • Business Intelligence Services is an entrepreneurial team within CSI that drives innovation at the intersection of technology, data, and community development. BIS offers capacity-building products and services to help internal divisions and member organizations anticipate change and grow their own capabilities and resources. Within the laboratory that is NeighborWorks America, this unique group functions to translate stakeholder needs into data- driven products and services. These products help local organizations understand their communities and tell their stories of impact to the world. For this reason, NeighborWorks network organizations are a frequent and significant client of the Business Intelligence team.

 

  • Data Management and Policy is a technology-, data-, and customer-driven team within CSI that focuses on data integrity and accessibility, process automation, and customer support. Data Management leads the corporation’s efforts in defining and collecting performance data from 240+ affiliate members across the country, information which is used to tell the story of impact. Data Management oversees the data collection process and infrastructure, provides training and technical assistance, and oversees quality control and validation to ensure the performance data is reliable and accurate. The NeighborWorks network organizations along with internal business stakeholders of each Line of Business are primary customers of the Data Management team.

 

Project Summary:

NeighborWorks’ Business Intelligence Scholar will be an integral part of the larger Business Intelligence and Corporate Strategy and Impact teams. The Scholar will work closely within the Business Intelligence Fellowship program, a data analytics and Tableau training opportunity for leaders in the NeighborWorks network working on property inheritance issues. The Scholar will also collaborate with the Director, Business Intelligence to develop a Thought Leadership webinar series focused on data and community development and affordable housing topics. Finally, the Scholar will collaborate with members of BI team to produce research reports requested by NeighborWorks organizations and optimize current dashboard tools.

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Serve as point person for live trainings, attend and monitor room for attendance, questions about NeighborWorks, and trainer performance, and collaborate with CSI leadership to provide guidance to trainers and attendees on any and all adjustments.
  • Co-manage and facilitate mentorship program, serving as a resource to both mentors and mentees and serving as a troubleshooter to ensure meeting cadence and quality is to a high standard.
  • Plan, schedule and attend monthly check-in meetings, moderate Q&A.
  • Schedule and identify logistical priorities for end of program Capstone Presentations, including presenter schedule and coordination with internal teams for publicity.  Prepare communications to generate interest in and attendance for the Capstone Presentations.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications on at least two stories featuring the fellowship program.
  • Design and field mid-program and end-of-program survey to measure participant learning and satisfaction. For the mid-program survey, prepare report for internal distribution and add to story bank.
  • Identify possible topics and speakers for a CSI webinar series around data analytics, measurement, and evaluation as it is relevant to network organizations either generally or to a specific sub-group.
  • Liaise with staff from other divisions (NI, Field, Communications) to plan and promote webinars, including managing the creation and review of promotional materials. 
  • Create email distribution lists and tracking documents with number of registrations, attendees and organizations represented. Attend webinars and monitor Q&A.
  • Collaborate with BI team members on producing deliverables for ad-hoc requests from the network, where the Scholar will collect, analyze and map community assessment data from primary and secondary sources.
  • Create additional delivery formats for national, regional, and organization level infographics so that they are optimized for PowerPoint formatting.
  • Review current Business Intelligence dashboards posted on the Member site and internally, and document possible usability improvements.

 

Nature of Work Contacts:

Internal: Many staff from other divisions (National Initiatives, Field Operations, Communications & Marketing, etc. ) to plan and promote webinars, including the creation and review of promotional materials.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in a related field
    • Minimum Education: Rising senior or above
    • Minimum GPA of 3.5 or above

Experience:

  • At least 3 (+) years of undergraduate-level coursework in a related field of study

Licenses, Certifications:

  • N/A

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be a current student enrolled in an academic program at an accredited university.
  • Major or significant coursework in statistics, geography, urban planning, or related discipline, including coursework involving data analysis and evaluation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data, communicating analytical findings, understanding and responding to customer needs, and assessing program results.
  • Solid communication and project management skills.

Technology:

  • Demonstrated advanced proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Software (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience using GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS),and survey software(Alchemer,  Qualtrics) is desirable.
  • Proficiency with workbooks and dashboards in Tableau and other BI tools.

 

Working Conditions:

Travel:

  • There will be an opportunity for one week of travel from Aug 10-14 to attend the Miami National Training Institute.

 

In-Office Requirement:

  • Hybrid Schedule - Required to work in the office (DC HQ) at least two days a week (Tuesdays + one other day).
