This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Program Coordinator - Child Development who will be all-in on our mission and who provides academic leadership, coordination, and oversight of the Child Development and Early Childhood Education programs. This position is responsible for curriculum coordination, instructional quality, student and faculty support, compliance with state and accreditation standards, and meaningful engagement with community and workforce partners. The Program Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for students, adjunct faculty, advisory councils, and external stakeholders, ensuring program alignment with workforce needs and institutional goals. This is a full-time faculty position with instructional responsibilities requiring teaching assignments for ten (10) out of twelve (12) months during the academic year, in addition to program coordination responsibilities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Education, or a closely related field.
Preferred: Master’s Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Education, or a related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Five (5) years of professional experience in early childhood education, workforce development, or postsecondary instruction.
Preferred: Experience coordinating academic programs, supervising faculty, or managing workforce or Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:
Required: Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred: Relevant early childhood credentials or certifications (e.g., Texas Rising Star, Texas School Ready, NAEYC-related credentials, Registered Apprenticeship experience).
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach assigned courses, providing high-quality instruction and meaningful student engagement.
- Adjust and maintain curriculum to meet Business Leadership Council (BLC), workforce, and industry requirements.
- Evaluate instructional materials and learning resources for effectiveness and compliance.
- Develop, review, and update course syllabi and curriculum in alignment with WECM, ACGM, and Amarillo College policies.
- Develop, deliver, and analyze program-level assessments to support continuous improvement.
- Schedule courses, modalities, and instructional calendars across approximately twelve (12) courses.
- Monitor enrollment trends and manage course registration to support student success and program viability.
- Coordinate textbook selection and ordering processes.
- Maintain accurate student, faculty, and program records.
- Collect and analyze data for Program Review and Closing the Loop initiatives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for student inquiries related to the CDEC program.
- Advise students on program milestones, pathways, and completion requirements.
- Support students by communicating workforce scholarship opportunities and resources.
- Coordinate with program advisors and success coaches.
- Verify graduation eligibility and assist with graduation lists.
- Award and manage foundation and program-related scholarships.
- Assist adjunct faculty with onboarding, course setup, and instructional readiness.
- Coordinate faculty meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
- Manage adjunct faculty workload, evaluations, and performance reviews.
- Submit faculty workload documentation each semester.
- Organize and facilitate annual Business Leadership Council (BLC) meetings.
- Assist with workforce celebrations, Honors Convocation, and student recognition events.
- Support Teach Club conferences and other program-related events.
- Promote program pathways and develop Dual Credit opportunities.
- Communicate and collaborate with early childhood centers across the Texas Panhandle.
- Work closely with Workforce Solutions Panhandle and regional partners.
- Participate in and represent Amarillo College on relevant committees and organizations, including but not limited to: Early Matters – Panhandle, Texas Family Leadership Council, Children at Risk, Panhandle Workforce Board Child Care Advisory Committee, Perkins / CTE Program Building initiatives, Texas School Ready – Registered Apprenticeship Program (TSR-RAP), Networking for Kids.
- Ensure program compliance with applicable early childhood systems and standards, including: Texas Minimum Standards, Texas Rising Star, Texas School Ready, Head Start and Early Head Start, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
- Maintain compliance with Amarillo College academic policies, credentialing standards, and curriculum approval processes.
- Monitor and apply policies related to Dual Credit, Credit by Exam, and curriculum exceptions.
- Complete reports, documentation, and evaluations accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform other work-related duties as required.

- Ability to facilitate meetings, trainings, and collaborative discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, early childhood centers, and workforce agencies.
- Knowledge of program assessment, accreditation processes, and continuous improvement practices in higher education.
- Ability to utilize technology and institutional systems to support program operations and instructional delivery.
- Ability to promote program awareness and recruitment through outreach, presentations, and community engagement.
Salary: Faculty Pay Information ,please review the AC AY24 Faculty Salary Placement. (Salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings and must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and/or maneuver office supplies up to twenty-five (25) pounds as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary). This is a full-time faculty position with instructional responsibilities requiring teaching assignments for ten (10) out of twelve (12) months during the academic year, in addition to program coordination responsibilities.
Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office and instructional environment and routinely uses standard office equipment and educational software systems, including Microsoft Office, Colleague, and other instructional technologies. Work may occur on-campus, off-campus, or remotely with minimal supervision.
