Assistant Teacher (Twos Classroom)
Assistant Teachers are responsible for aiding the lead teacher in the spiritual,
social-emotional, physical, language and cognitive development of all children in
their care, which may include infants, toddlers, and/or preschool age children.
They will also assist the lead teacher in developing relationships with families to
engage and encourage parent participation in our program.
The Assistant Teacher will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with state regulations and working within the guidelines established by the personnel policies, operational procedures, and the parent’s handbook of the Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead teacher in maintaining a developmentally appropriate
Christian classroom environment that is inviting, friendly, and reflects the
children’s learning and growth. - Assist the lead teacher in class preparation by obtaining and preparing
materials and supplies for lessons, setting up the classroom, and any other needed preparations. - Assist the lead teacher in implementing (and planning, at requested times)
daily lesson plans which follow assigned study units, and which promote the spiritual growth, physical, mental, emotional, and social development of each child in the class. - Serve as the substitute lead teacher in the absence of the classroom lead
teacher (or any other lead teacher, as needed). - Inform the administrators of needed supplies, materials and equipment.
- Interact with the children and encourage their involvement with learning
experiences. - Give each child the attention needed to assure his or her needs are met in
the areas of learning experiences, snacks and meals, toileting and diapering, rest time, play, healthcare and safety. - Assist the lead teacher in enforcing class rules and maintaining order
throughout the day. - Use appropriate, consistent and positive discipline in accordance with the
Center’s Discipline Policy. - Maintain supervision of children at all times.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with families, and provide daily reports to parents. - Assist the lead teacher in writing notes to be sent home regarding activities, snacks/meals, toileting, and behavior.
- Discuss with administration concerns with children, parents, or families.
- Assist the lead teacher in documenting children’s behaviors and/or any
unusual circumstances. - Assure a clean and orderly room throughout the day.
- Maintain neat and organized cabinets, closets, and shelves.
- Report to administration need for repairs to Center or church property.
- Take daily attendance.
- Document all parent/teacher conferences, and other pertinent
communications with parents.
Employee Practices:
- Work scheduled hours, being prompt with clock-in/clock-out times.
- Establish professional relationships and good communication with staff
members to foster a Christ-like working environment. - Attend all staff meetings.
- Attend classes, workshops, and in-house trainings as outlined in the
Personnel Manual. - Work within NC Childcare Rules and Regulations.
- Perform other job duties related to the job as assigned by the Director.
Assistant Teacher Qualifications:
Must be a Christian and live by high ethical and moral standards.
Must have a basic love for children with commitment to a high quality
standard of teaching.
Must demonstrate evidence of emotional maturity and stability with the
skills to make sound judgments during crisis situations.
Must have the ability to get on the floor to interact with the children.
Must have the ability to lift children.
Must be 18 years old and a high school graduate.
NCECC and must have at least two years’ experience in classroom as an
assistant teacher or teacher’s aide.
OR Five years of experience in classroom as an assistant teacher or teacher’s
aide, and working toward obtaining NCECC.
