Internship: Junior Software Engineer (Frontend Developer)
NexGen Analytics (NGA) is seeking an undergraduate Junior Software Engineer summer intern to assist with the development of a performance profiling web application. This is an in-person role in Chapel Hill, NC. U.S. citizenship is required.
What We Do:
NGA offers R&D support services for High-Performance Computing (HPC), with particular expertise in scientific and data applications, to clients across the US. Our projects span fields suc as load balancing, reduced-order modeling, and performance profiling. Some of our work is open-source, with information that can be found on our site: ng-analytics.com.
What You'll Do:
Your primary role will be to assist with the frontend development of a new performance profiling tool for HPC under the guidance of the project lead. You will collaborate with the NGA team to design/implement new features and shape the project’s future direction.

Internship Details:
- Duration: May 2026 - August 2026 (Exact dates are flexible)
- Position: Full-time (40 hr/wk)
- Location: In-person in Chapel Hill, NC (minutes from UNC-Chapel Hill campus)
- Compensation: $27/hr
Required Qualifications:
- U.S. citizenship [please do not apply otherwise]
- Available to work in-person in Chapel Hill, NC [no telecommuting]
- Demonstrated interest in HPC and scientific computing
- Basic experience with git-based workflows
- Familiarity with TypeScript, React, and REST APIs
- Adaptable and eager to learn
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Rust, D3.js, SQL, and/or Docker
- Personal projects demonstrating relevant experience in HPC, web app development, or related fields
Standout Qualifications:
- Direct experience in HPC environments
- Experience with parallel programming (e.g. MPI)
- Knowledge of numerical methods and/or computational physics
- Background in formal mathematics
