Overview

The Domestic Violence Shelter Coordinator assists with overseeing daily shelter operations to ensure a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for survivors of domestic violence. This role involves working with shelter participants with dignity and respect, maintaining safety and security protocols, and ensuring the facility is clean, secure, and well-maintained. The Coordinator also provides direct advocacy services such as crisis intervention, safety planning, intake and exit services, victim compensation assistance, and referrals, while completing required documentation and participating in ongoing training. The position works closely with staff, volunteers, and community partners and reports to the Shelter Director.

Description

The Domestic Violence Shelter Coordinator works from an empowerment-based 

philosophy; therefore, they are skilled at identifying strengths. Works as part of a team providing site upkeep, shelter, and hotline coverage in our 24/7 residential shelter which provides a safe environment to adults and children fleeing domestic violence. You would be a trained certified domestic violence advocate providing individual and group crisis counseling, crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, providing information and referrals as well as advocacy. As part of our Serene Harbor team, you would 

coordinate services and supplies for shelter office and residential needs. Basic office 

work such as copying, filing, documentation, and organizing material; along with 

cleaning and shelter upkeep are required. 

Qualifications:

❖ Preferred: Experience & knowledge of domestic violence, social justice issues,

particularly gender violence, immigration and racial, class, and/or sexual orientation issues

❖ Excellent interpersonal and community-building skills

❖ Strong written and oral communication skills

❖ Strong computer skills with Microsoft Suites, Google and Adobe Suites

❖ Must be able attend Domestic Violence Core Competency Training for Certification

❖ Trustworthy, honest and reliable team player

❖ Excellent Organizational & Operational Skills

Responsibilities:

❖ Ability to always supervise shelter participants with dignity and respect. Must engage participants in positive interactions and troubleshoot problems as they surface.

❖ Develops effective working relationships with staff and relates to staff, volunteers, program participants and others in a friendly professional manner and provides excellent internal and external customer service.

❖ Provide education regarding Victim Compensation Program, eligibility and assist victims with paperwork and filing process for Victim Compensation Claims

❖ Intervene and appropriately de-escalate crisis situations.

❖ Always maintain safety and security protocols at Shelter

❖ Manage scheduling of staff to ensure adequate shift coverage

❖ Maintain an organized, clean, and productive work environment ensuring all advocate duties are completed daily

❖ Ensure the shelter offices maintain needed supplies for daily duties

❖ Ensure a sufficient list of groceries is ordered, included specific residential dietary needs

❖ Perform other duties as necessary or assigned

❖ Provide crisis de-escalation, safety planning, crisis counseling, social service referrals, domestic violence empowerment and advocacy

❖ Respond to helpline calls and complete documentation in accordance with agency requirements

❖ Provide intake services for residents entering Shelter and exit interviews for residents leaving Shelter

❖ Participate in trainings to meet continuing education and certification requirements

❖ Reports to Shelter Manager/Director

Other Qualifications: valid driver's license, ability to work as a team member, organizational and communication skills, ability to work flexible hours, adherence to professional ethics.

Salary range

$16 - $19 per hour
