About the Role:
An Accounting Intern at Thaddeus will be working with Thaddeus' accounting clients. They will work collaboratively to acquire funds through general accounting, internal transactions, client accounts, financial reports, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and revenue accounting utilizing QuickBooks Online. The intern will also assist in recruitment of clients and advise on a variety of client needs. We are looking for individuals who are highly motivated, organized and adept in multi-tasking abilities.
The Accounting Intern will receive direct supervision from the Accounting Department Manager/Mentor and will get the chance to work in a self-organized team setting.
(Note: this is an unpaid internship role)
Responsibilities:
Assist with Accounts Receivable and Account Payable activities.
Retrieve, review, and route audit documentations request.
Process payments received against invoices and review aging reports.
Route invoices to appropriate individuals for approval and create vendor files.
Assist in establishing tables of accounts and assigning entries to proper accounts.
Assist in developing, implementing, maintaining records in accounting system (QuickBooks)
Assist in computing taxes owed and preparing tax returns, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting, or other tax requirements.
Collaborate with accounting and bookkeeping personnel to complete general department administrative work.
Maintain confidentiality with organization and client information.
Assist in content writing for organization-wide marketing strategy for client recruitment and community engagement purposes.
Participate in our Buddy system once assimilated and act as a mentor/point of contact for new interns transitioning into your team during their induction and onboarding process.
Qualifications:
Required:
Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance
Must have completed Accounting I and II courses by the start of internship.
Must be a self- starter with a good work ethic.
Ability to follow directions and have great follow-through skills.
Must have great communication, time management and organizational skills.
Must be meticulous and have excellent attention to detail.
Ability to pass QuickBooks Online certification exam (note: you must pass QuickBooks Online certification to work in client accounts)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
Intern must have the appropriate technology, internet connection and ability to function in a virtual capacity via Microsoft Teams.
Preferred:
Have some knowledge of QuickBooks Online
Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
Previous accounting experience
Enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or MBA) with a focus in Accounting or Finance
Comfortable working independently, as well as in a team environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Teams and OneNote, 8x8 Work, and Adobe Creative Suite (especially Adobe Acrobat DC)
Learning Objectives:
Intern will learn how to create, improve and maintain the finance and reporting infrastructure for Thaddeus
Intern will learn how to perform asset and vendor management processes
Intern will learn the day-to-day operations in Finance and Accounting
Intern will become proficient in QuickBooks Online
Intern will learn how to manage the month-end, quarter end, and year end closing process.
Intern will learn how to actively support financial statement audits.
Time Commitment and Work Conditions:
This role is 100% virtual.
Must be available a minimum of 15 hours per week.
Must be able to commit 1-year to this internship.
Must be available for the following VIRTUAL weekly meetings:
Weekly All Staff Meeting: Tuesdays 9 AM – 10 AM PST
Weekly Department Meeting: Thursday 11 AM – 12 PM PST
Weekly Department Meeting: Wednesday 12 PM – 1 PM PST
