Academic Credit Paid Internship - Watershed Monitoring Intern II
The Baltimore County Department of Environmental Protection & Sustainability is seeking paid student interns for Summer 2026 to work in the Water Quality Monitoring Section.
Definition of Responsibility
The internship will provide students with a real-world learning opportunity that prepares them for the workforce upon graduation. Also, the selected intern will assist with fieldwork and serve on a field crew to conduct fish and water-quality sampling, as well as other field-related tasks, for our Water Quality Monitoring Program.
The selected intern will:
- Collect field work samples
- Conduct pollution inspections
- Assist the field monitoring staff
Examples of Other Duties
Performs other related duties as required.
Eligibility Requirements
- High school students in their junior or senior year, with approval from their school's administration
- Students between the ages of 14 and 17 must complete a work permit
- Undergraduate students in their freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior year, and graduate students actively attending an accredited college or university, are eligible
- Students must have at least a 2.8 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the high school and undergraduate level, or at least a 3.0 GPA at the graduate level
- A college transcript is required as evidence of GPA. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable
- Must be pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related field
- Must be able to work a minimum of 34 hours per week

Conditions of Employment

Applicants selected for an internship with Baltimore County must successfully complete an employment investigation, including, but not limited to, criminal background checks, education verification, fingerprint checks, and a drug screen.
