STEAM Instructor for after school youth enrichment (LEGO Robotics)
STEAMworks ATX is hiring part-time instructors to help lead elementary after-school STEAM classes in the South and Central Austin area. Our programs use hands-on LEGO® robotics, engineering challenges, and beginner-friendly coding to help students build creativity, confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Students build and program robots using LEGO® Education robotics platforms designed for beginner learners. Instructors guide students through fun, hands-on projects that introduce engineering and technology concepts in an engaging way.
STEAMworks offers after-school classes during the academic year as well as camps and workshops at Austin-area locations.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with kids, can lead a classroom and manage student behavior, and wants a flexible part-time schedule.
No robotics or coding experience is required. Our programs use beginner-friendly visual coding, and we provide training, equipment, and curriculum.
Previous teaching experience is helpful but not required. Instructors work alongside a partner teacher in small classes (around 14 students), creating a supportive environment while leading engaging lessons and activities.
Expected Responsibilities:
- Lead elementary after-school STEAM classes and guide the flow of lessons
- Guide students through hands-on robotics and engineering activities
- Support students as they build and code beginner-friendly LEGO® robotics projects
- Maintain a positive classroom environment and manage student behavior
- Encourage creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving
- Assist with setup, organization, and cleanup of equipment and materials
- Represent STEAMworks professionally at schools, camps, and occasional events
Skills We’re Looking For:
- Comfortable leading a classroom and managing a group of elementary-aged students
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm
- Previous experience working with children (teaching, tutoring, camps, babysitting, childcare, coaching, etc.) is a plus
- Reliability and professionalism
- Willingness to learn new material and follow lesson plans
- Interest in education, STEM, youth programs, or hands-on learning
Minimum Requirements:
- Dependable and able to arrive on time to assigned school sites
- Comfortable working with elementary-aged children
- Able to travel to schools in the South or Central Austin area
- Able to help lead active, hands-on classes
- Open to learning STEAMworks curriculum and teaching methods
Schedule:
School Year (August–May)
- After-school classes typically run between 2:30–4:40 PM
- Many programs meet for about 1 hour and 20 minutes once per week, depending on the school
- Around 10 hours per week will be available depending on instructor availability and school assignments
Availability
- Even if you are only available a few days per week, we encourage you to apply
- We are hiring instructors for multiple school sites and continuing to expand our programs
Summer (June–July)
- Optional opportunities may be available through weekly summer camps and occasional events
- Camps typically run around 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Summer hours are not guaranteed and depend on camp enrollment and staffing needs
