Fire Inspection Supervisor
The City of Saint Paul Department of Safety & Inspections is hiring a DSI Fire Safety Inspector III to perform advanced level work in conducting the most complex and difficult complaint investigations, inspections, and enforcement actions associated with commercial, single family, and multi-unit residential properties related to property maintenance and public safety.
Here's what you can expect to do:
- Conduct investigations, inspections, enforcement actions, and reviews. Identify, resolve, and manage the most complex violations, compliance requirements, and issues.
- Coordinate area enforcement activities, initiate assignments involving multiple staff, and monitor complex compliance issues through completion.
- Coordinate the efforts of multiple sections, departments, and agencies to address chronic compliance issues.
- Provide testimony at various venues, including City council, Legislative hearings, Administrative hearings, and court.
- Conduct complex research related to ongoing work and special projects, producing reports and recommendations.
- Develop training modules and train staff in work related techniques, procedures, and requirements. Monitor workloads and directs staff regarding violation and potential violation determinations.
- Perform highly complex inspections and enforcement actions.
- Explain codes, laws, and enforcement policies to individuals and groups.
- Assist in writing policies and procedures.
- Properly and safely drive and operate a motor vehicle.

This position may be assigned to be on-call after normal working hours including weekends and holidays.

Position Requirements
Requirements may be met by one of the following options:
- Four years of experience performing fire safety investigations, inspections, and compliance for commercial, single family, and multi-unit residential properties related to property maintenance and public safety.
- An Associate Degree or 60 college semester credits to include coursework in fire, building, or engineering technology, construction, communications, or any related area and two years of experience performing fire safety investigations, inspections, and compliance for commercial, single family, and multi-unit residential properties related to property maintenance and public safety.
- A Bachelor's Degree to include coursework in fire, building, or engineering technology, construction, communications, or any related area.
AND
Must possess and maintain certification as a Fire Inspector II or III by the Minnesota Fire Service Certification Board, the National Fire Protection Association-NPQB, or the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress to NFPA 1031 Standards.
Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.
Eligible Lists Created from Open Job Posting: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Non-promotion eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. When there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.
Final Selection Process: Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
