Position Summary
The Book Arts Cataloging Intern will work with CSU Libraries staff to assess and document the physical characteristics of CSU’s Book Arts Collection. The intern will gain hands-on experience handling rare materials, learning about rare book collection management, and assessing and documenting types of bindings, paper, printing, etc., found in CSU’s Book Arts Collection.

Ability to work independently and with a team
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and via email
Exceptional demonstrated attention to detail
Exceptional demonstrated organizational skills
Preferred Job Qualifications
Knowledge of historical and current book binding and letterpress methods
Interest or direct experience with the creation or care of artist books, paper-based media, or multimedia art
Cataloging or descriptive metadata experience
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Volunteer or work experience in a museum, library, or archive
Essential Duties
Identify physical characteristics of items in Book Arts collection
Catalog physical characteristics of Book Arts items in Microsoft Excel according to established guidelines
Photograph Book Arts items
Follow departmental organizational and handling requirements for rare materials
Communicate progress to full-time staff at regular intervals
