Nonprofit Data Systems Intern
Interested in how nonprofits use data to grow their impact? This internship will help Life With Pigs Farm Animal Sanctuary improve the systems that track donor engagement and supporter growth, giving students hands-on experience with nonprofit data, process design, and mission-driven operations.
Life With Pigs is a nonprofit farm animal sanctuary that provides lifelong care to rescued animals while advocating for a more compassionate world. This internship focuses on strengthening the internal systems that support our programs, fundraising, and outreach.
Summary:
The intern will work on a defined project to improve how data is entered, maintained, and organized across our systems so that staff can better understand and communicate the impact of our work.
Key responsibilities:
Reviewing current data entry workflows and identifying areas for improvement
Developing clear, step-by-step documentation for how staff should enter and maintain data
Creating data entry standards and naming conventions for consistency across records
Assisting with data entry/updates to ensure CRM records follow established standards
Conducting basic analysis of donor flow and engagement trends, helping identify where supporters are discovering and connecting with the sanctuary
Developing simple checklists or procedures that help maintain data quality over time
By the end of the internship, the organization will have clearer data processes and documentation, as well as an improved understanding of how supporters find and engage with the sanctuary.
Location:
This is opportunity may be virtual or hybrid. If selected candidate is local, a small amount of direct animal work (animal care/event assistance) will be included to foster connection to the mission.
Academic Credit & Funding
This is an unpaid internship, but students at the College of William & Mary may be eligible to apply for F.U.S.E. Internship Funding Program, which provides financial support for unpaid summer internships. We are happy to provide documentation needed for funding applications.
Students may also pursue academic credit through their university if applicable. Life With Pigs is happy to work with students and their faculty advisors to support internship credit requirements.
This opportunity is open to current students and recent graduates interested in gaining experience in nonprofit operations and data systems.
We are looking for students who are organized, thoughtful, and interested in learning about systems/data.
Ideal candidates will have:
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Comfort working with spreadsheets or databases (Excel or Google Sheets)
Clear written communication skills
Ability to work independently and follow structured processes
Interest in nonprofit work, animal welfare, or mission-driven organizations
Ability to handle confidential donor and organizational information with discretion, including maintaining the privacy of supporter data and internal records.
Prior CRM or database experience is helpful but not required.
Experience working with confidential data preferred but not required.
