Construction Accountant

Construction Accountant  Location: San Antonio, TX

About the Role

CGC General Contractors is a growing construction company seeking a Construction Accountant with construction accounting experience to support day-to-day accounting operations. This role focuses on accounts payable, job c accounting.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable & Vendor Management

  • Process vendor and subcontractor invoices in Sage 100
  • Ensure invoices are properly coded by job, cost code, and cost type
  • Maintain complete vendor files including W-9s and Certificates of Insurance
  • Coordinate subcontractor payments in alignment with owner funding and company cash policies for accuracy, vendor compliance, and cash control within a fast-paced construction environment. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Sage 100 and understands how costs flow through jobs, cost codes, and cost types. This position offers exposure to job cost reporting, month-end close, and long-term growth within construction
  • Assist with check runs, ACH payments, and payment coordination

Job Cost & Construction Accounting Support

  • Enter and review job cost transactions to maintain accurate cost-to-date reporting
  • Assist with job setup and maintenance in Sage 100
  • Support Project Managers with invoice questions and cost corrections
  • Identify and escalate obvious coding or posting issues

Month-End & Close Support

  • Assist with month-end close tasks, including AP cutoffs and expense reviews
  • Prepare schedules and documentation to support WIP reporting
  • Maintain organized digital records for audits, CPAs, and surety requests

Cash Controls & Administrative Support

  • Ensure payments are accurate, approved, and compliant with company controls
  • Coordinate check pickup and bank deposits as needed
  • Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of accounting experience in construction
  • Experience using Sage 100 (ERP or Contractor), Timberscan, Procore 
  • Working knowledge of job cost accounting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with Project Managers and accounting leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Exposure to WIP schedules, over/under billings, or month-end close
  • Interest in career growth within construction accounting
