Virginia ABC’s Bureau of Law Enforcement is seeking a Tax Support Specialist to collect, review and examine wine tax reports and accounts. Specific duties include processing all incoming physical and electronic wine tax documents; conducting examinations of wine tax reports; making recommendations for manager and director approval; analyzing and correcting data in the Wine Tax Database; analyzing all tax documents, accounts and records for compliance with state tax laws, assessing liability and making adjustments to taxpayers' accounts. This position will also determine whether taxpayers comply with tax regulations, that taxes are properly assessed, tax accounts are balanced monthly and the taxpayer informed of any issues. This position works with co-workers to ensure purchase orders, transfers and receipts are processed correctly, in a timely manner, and that all records and files are properly maintained. This position will have frequent contact with corporate officials, attorneys, U.S. and foreign suppliers and the general public.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

  • · Selected candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with a demonstrated ability using computer systems including spreadsheet and access databases.
  • Candidate should be able to enter confidential data; gather and analyze pertinent information; produce financial reports; distinguish between relevant and irrelevant information and arrive at logical conclusions; troubleshoot problems and devise solutions; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

 

 

  • Must also have the ability to handle stressful situations; make independent decisions; and work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Must have experience multitasking, organizing and prioritizing workloads, and understanding compliance requirements as well as auditing system information.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or Information Technology from an accredited college or university; or related training and experience may substitute for desired education.
