Southeast Arizona Environmental Education Outreach Coordinator

Primary Function/Purpose:  

The AmeriCorps SE AZ Environmental Education Outreach Coordinator, working under the direction of the preserve manager, and collaborate with the Public Program Coordinator to coordinate volunteers to help provide outreach to local communities and provide environmental education experiences, will develop curricula that will lead to knowledge and understanding of the values and benefits of an environment that supports plants, animals and human life on earth. 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:  

  • Designs, under the direction of the supervisor and in collaboration with the Public Program Coordinator, and delivers environmental education and outreach curriculum to be used at community outreach events, at schools, and at the preserve.

 

  • Coordinates the planning and execution of various environmental outreach programs and presentations. 

 

  • Works with teachers, chaperones and large groups of children in natural settings on rough surfaces on trails and in riparian areas.  

 

  • Trains a community of volunteers to assist with environmental education programs.

  

  • This position does have recurring access to vulnerable populations. 

 

  • Makes a positive community impact addressing environmental stewardship focus 

 

  • Engages with federal, state and local agencies to promote the development of environmental education components, on the ground work dedicated to conservation goals, and volunteer participation. 

 

  • Develops a program and informational materials, in conjunction with Marketing Dept., to ensure the approx. 25,000 visitors to the SE AZ Preserves are aware of the Conservancy’s mission and roles it plays in conservation and stewardship.  

 

  • Develops materials and programing for the annual Kids Camp at Ramsey Canyon Preserve, and other educational opportunities. 

 

  • Creates educational materials, maintain data and provide reports of member performance measure results, while communicating with volunteers, staff and partners.
