About Hillsborough Education Foundation:
Hillsborough Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, focused solely on ensuring every student in Hillsborough County receives an outstanding public education that equips them for a fulfilling future. HEF supports Hillsborough County Public Schools, the 7th largest school district in the country. Last year, with the community’s generosity, we raised $11.2 million to provide tools and resources for students and teachers in our district’s public schools.
Description and Essential Functions:
The Communications Summer Intern will help tell our organization’s story through relevant media channels. This position’s work will support HEF’s efforts to strengthen brand awareness in our community. You will have the opportunity to work directly under the Communications Manager and will gain valuable experience by assisting in the tasks below, which may include but are not limited to:
Responsibilities include:
- Contribute to the production of the monthly newsletter, ConnectED.
- Develop engaging content for both digital and print platforms, including website updates, social media posts, and promotional materials.
- Interview volunteers and program participants to develop human-interest stories and impact highlights.
- Produce, edit, and publish brand-aligned short-form video content (Reels, Stories, and similar formats) to increase audience engagement and expand social reach.
- Capture high-quality photo and video content at programs, events, and community activities, and maintain an organized digital media library for ongoing marketing and communications use.
Skills/Attributes:
- We are looking for a bright, eager student with an interest in communications, marketing, and storytelling.
- Successful candidates will be creative, motivated, detail-oriented and flexible.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must.
- Experience with the following systems is a plus: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro), WordPress and/or HTML, Constant Contact and social media platforms.
- Candidates should be focused on professional growth and development in this field.
Experience Required:
- Completed at least one year of relevant coursework and are currently enrolled at an accredited college in a program with a focus in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related discipline.
- Must have dependable transportation. Tasks will be completed onsite at HEF (2306 N. Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33607) with occasional remote opportunities.
- Start/end date and hours are flexible. Opportunity for 10-20 hours per week.
- No criminal history and able to pass a background check.

- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Work Environment:
- This position is in person and based out of HEF’s Tampa Office.
- This role may have occasional remote work, which will be conducted in accordance with HEF’s Telecommute Policy.

Compensation:
