Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Spanish Teacher to join our team at Fort Madison Junior/Senior High School. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for students in grades 7-12. This position requires an enthusiastic educator who can inspire, motivate, and engage students while developing their Spanish language proficiency and cultural understanding.


 

Curriculum Development

  • Design, implement, and assess engaging lesson plans that align with Iowa Core Standards for World Languages and meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Implement the high-quality curricular resources adopted by FMCSD to deliver instruction aligned with the program's priority standards.
  • Develop instructional experiences that promote communication, cultural understanding, and real-world language application.


 

Classroom Management

  • Create and sustain a positive classroom environment that fosters student participation, mutual respect, and collaboration, ensuring that all students feel comfortable and safe.
  • Align classroom management practices with the building's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework and adhere to the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to effectively support students' social, emotional, and behavioral health.
  • Commit to fostering a culturally responsive and inclusive classroom environment that values language diversity and global perspectives.


 

Instructional Delivery

  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and instructional strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish.
  • Develop daily lesson plans that follow the district's instructional framework.
  • Analyze data to inform instructional decisions and identify appropriate scaffolding strategies to differentiate learning for all students.
  • Promote authentic language use through interactive communication activities, collaborative learning, and cultural exploration.


 

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Continually monitor and evaluate student progress through formal and informal assessments; provide timely feedback to students and parents.
  • Evaluate student learning using common formative and summative assessments collaboratively developed by the department.
  • Assess student progress in language proficiency, communication skills, and cultural exploration.


 

Student Support

  • Identify and address individual student needs, providing additional support and resources as necessary.
  • Implement a data-driven MTSS process to identify and apply appropriate interventions and enrichment strategies that support student learning and language development.
  • Encourage student confidence and engagement in language learning.


 

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, specialists, and support staff to enhance the educational experience for all students.
  • Work with the department to reach consensus on priority standards, develop common assessments, and establish instructional pacing.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide targeted interventions and enrichment opportunities that support student growth and learning.

  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents, guardians, and the school community regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, families, and colleagues.

Professional Development

  • Participate actively in continuous professional growth through workshops, conferences, and collaboration with peers.
  • Engage in reflective practice to foster professional growth and enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Remain current with best practices in world language instruction and language acquisition.


 

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid Iowa Teaching License and one of the following endorsements:
    • 5-12 Spanish
    • K-12 World Language: Spanish
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Spanish, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Successful prior teaching experience at the secondary level preferred but not required.


 

Physical Requirements

  • Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking.
