BOC Fellow Stage Manager

Position Title: BOC Fellow (Stage Manager) – World Premiere Opera
Employment Type: Temporary / Fellowship (May 26 – June 6, 2026)
Location: Bloomington, Indiana (In-Person)
Compensation: Full Tuition Remission + Stipend (based on expertise and qualifications)

 

Job Description:

The Bloomington Opera Camp™ (BOC) is seeking an experienced and highly organized Stage Manager to lead all production logistics for the worldwide premiere of Seeking/Buscando El Dorado, a new community opera.

Following our premiere on June 6th, 2026, this opera will begin an international tour (for now secured with the overture). The selected stage manager will be appointed as a BOC Fellow, receiving full tuition coverage and a stipend. This is a leadership role in a professionally produced world premiere, offering a pivotal career credit and the opportunity to work closely with an award-winning international creative team.

 

Position Available (1 opening): Stage Manager

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all production logistics and scheduling for the full 12-day camp (May 26 – June 6, 2026)
  • Create, manage, and distribute detailed schedules for all participants across multiple disciplines:
    • Singers (soloists and choir)
    • Orchestra
    • Fine Arts team (painters, sculptors, costume designers)
    • Production and administrative staff
  • Coordinate per-section and individual rehearsal calls based on priorities set by the Music and Artistic Director and Stage Director
  • Ensure smooth daily operations, including room assignments, break schedules, and transitions between activities
  • Serve as the central communication hub between the creative team (Music Director, Stage Director, Arts Director) and all participants
  • Anticipate production needs and troubleshoot logistical challenges in real-time
  • Maintain a master calendar and communicate schedule updates clearly and promptly to all stakeholders
  • Support run-of-show coordination for the final world premiere performance on June 6, 2026

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Stage Management, Theater Production, Arts Administration, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
  • Significant stage management or production coordination experience in opera, theater, or musical theater
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex schedules and coordinate multiple moving parts simultaneously
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure in a fast-paced, intensive production environment
  • Proficiency with scheduling software/tools (e.g., Excel, Google Calendar)
  • Must be available for the full program: May 26 – June 6, 2026 in Bloomington, IN

Desired Skills (Not Required, but a Plus):

  • Experience with new works or world premieres
  • Familiarity with community-engaged or multi-level productions
  • Stage management experience for opera specifically
  • Spanish language skills (basic or fluent)
  • Interest in sustainable arts production models
