Intellectual Property Summer Legal Assistant
Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Summer Legal Assistant to support the Intellectual Property practice group. The Summer Legal Assistant will work directly with partners, associates, other paralegals, and Legal Practice Support management on a variety of entry level practice group specific tasks and assignments. The Summer Legal Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and legal support in an environment where superior client service is emphasized and to deliver the excellent client experience that Morgan Lewis is known for.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organizes, assembles and supplements case repositories.
- Manages case and client information manually and digitally, using electronic databases.
- Prepares chronologies and timelines.
- Attends meetings with partners, associates, and clients.
- Reviews various materials for assessments, and reports/summarizes findings to case team.
- Assist with proofreading, editing, and compiling of fact evidence and data, at the direction of an attorney or more senior staff member.
- Assists with first-level fact investigation and research into publicly available documents.
- Assists with first-level research and initial review of matters reporting findings to their case teams.
- Track and communicates case-related deadlines and information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Fact research skills desired.
- Prior experience in a law firm or other client service environment, is preferred.
- Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Portable Document Format (PDF) software.
- Familiarity with iManage, Adobe PDF, and Kofax.
- Experience with computer aided software (CAD)
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
- Leadership skills.
- Organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- Works productively and effectively with all personnel as part of a client service team.
- Ability to pivot and adapt to change and balance competing deadlines.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, brief correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present routine information in one-on-one or small group situations.
- Basic arithmetic skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide all units of measure).
- Ability to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions and deal with problems in routine situations.
