Unclassified Paid Intern

Program Description:

The High School Outreach and Recruitment office participates in college fairs, college expos, and other school/community events to increase awareness of the academic programs and support services offered at West Los Angeles College (West). In addition to representing West at these events, UPIs serve as liaisons to partner high schools. They visit these schools regularly and conduct presentations, workshops, and one-on-one coaching sessions that walk students through the application, orientation, and registration process. UPIs are integral to ensuring prospective students successfully transition to West.

Job Description:

This position requires a minimum availability of 15 hours per week during the K-12 school day. UPIs may work up to a maximum of 25 hours per week, per supervisor approval. Some evening and weekend event participation may be required.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending mandatory training sessions
  • Preparing and conducting presentations at high schools and other service sites
  • Representing West at college fairs and other school/community events
  • Building and maintaining relationships with high school counselors and college faculty/staff
  • Designing recruitment materials (posters, brochures, flyers, etc.)
  • Onboarding high school students through group and individual workshops
  • Maintaining the student database
  • Conducting campus tours
  • Responding to inquiries and questions about West

Requirements:

  • Attend an accredited four (4) year college or university
  • Enroll in at least twelve (12) undergraduate units or nine (9) graduate units
  • Pursue a degree in education, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Reliable transportation to and from school sites, including access to a personal vehicle, a valid California driver’s license, and car insurance

  • Computer Skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Office 265, Google Suite

Compensation: $20.29/hr

This is an unclassified at-will position and is contingent upon funding. UPIs will be compensated for travel from West to service sites and other work-event locations.
