WVU ESPORTS | WVU Esports includes a varsity‑level collegiate program that competes nationally across multiple titles and is committed to sustained competitive excellence and structured player development. The program fields organized varsity teams supported by dedicated coaching, training, and operational infrastructure, while also encompassing a student gaming club and academic offerings within the WVU School of Sport Sciences. WVU Esports emphasizes competitive performance and holistic student‑athlete development that provides opportunities for growth in competition, leadership, and academic engagement within evolving esports and sports industries.

POSITION SUMMARY | This is a 9-month Graduate Service Assistant (GA) position with the potential for summer employment. The GA will support the WVU Esports Program with a primary focus on content creation and in-person and digital engagement within a varsity esports environment. Embedded within a nationally competitive collegiate esports program, this position involves hands-on participation in the planning, scheduling, and execution of marketing, social media, broadcast, and multimedia content for WVU Esports platforms. The GA will assist in supervising and mentoring a student content team, contribute to social media strategy and execution, support event planning and broadcast production, and collaborate closely with esports staff to develop creative storytelling and fan engagement initiatives. Additional responsibilities include engaging with followers across WVU Esports social media channels, supporting day-to-day operations, and contributing to other program functions as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate with the Director of Esports to develop and implement a semester marketing plan
  • Plan, staff, and oversee social media content, events, and community engagement initiatives
  • Create internal written communications (e.g., ENEWS/UNEWS, WVUToday) and serve as on-air talent as needed
  • Assist in supervising and mentoring student interns, including those enrolled in for-credit academic courses
  • Create competitive marketing content for WVU Esports platforms (TikTok, X/Twitter, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Support esports events, activations, and student club programs, including LANs, watch parties, and team travel
  • Plan and execute engaging on-campus events that promote team recognition and student support
  • Support recruitment and outreach efforts by assisting with high school and collegiate camps, LANs, and campus tours 
  • Develop multimedia content, including written copy, graphics, photography, and edited video for multiple platforms
  • Teach one eight-week online course annually in the WVU School of Sport Sciences, as needed
  • Lead esports student marketing initiatives, including coordinating tabling events and distributing promotional materials
  • Design and distribute flyers, brochures, posters, and other print collateral across campus

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of graphic design, photography, videography, Adobe light room, aftereffects, premier pro, and in design
  • Experience developing and executing online and in person events
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong planning, organizational, and time management‑ skills, with the ability to meet established deadlines
  • Ability to stay current with social media marketing trends, platforms, and industry best practices and apply them 
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new skills and adapt to evolving technologies and workflows
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license

WORK SCHEDULE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Availability to work nights and weekends and to travel overnight as required
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 40 pounds for events, broadcasts, and activations
