Veterans Program Specialist - Women Veterans Coordinator

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) currently has an opening for a Veterans Program Specialist to serve as the department’s Women Veteran Coordinator. This position is located within the Office of the Secretary and performs statewide outreach. This position requires a blend of remote work, field work, and work from a headquarter city.

Position Summary

This position serves as the agency’s Women Veterans Coordinator and is responsible for developing and administering outreach programs and department events with a special focus on women veterans.

The responsibilities of this position include performing interagency, public, and federal Veterans Affairs (VA) advocacy efforts. The Veteran Program Specialist promotes WDVA programs to external organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders statewide. This position also serves as a liaison to deliver information from WDVA to veterans and veterans' representatives, and to bring suggestions, questions, and concerns from the veterans' community back to WDVA.

Salary Information

The starting salary for this position is between $27.00 - $33.00 an hour ($56,160 - $68,640 annually). The Veterans Program Specialist classification is in pay schedule and range 07-04.

Salaries are dependent on candidate qualifications. Compensation for current State employees may vary and will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

 

Job Details

The headquarter city for this position will be based on the selected candidate’s location.

This position will require frequent statewide travel which may necessitate driving and/or working in remote areas. This position may also periodically work evening and weekend hours. The incumbent must meet the requirements to operate a State of Wisconsin Fleet vehicle.

This position is eligible to work remotely. Remote work is intended to be performed primarily in the State of Wisconsin. High speed internet access is a requirement of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change based on business needs.

Due to the nature of this position’s duties, candidates will be subject to a criminal background check prior to appointment.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. WDVA does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

A twelve-month probationary period will be required.

 

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates will have experience in:

  • Marketing or outreach (e.g., identify marketing or outreach opportunities, prepare and present program information, identify potential outreach resources, etc.); and
  • Creating and editing social media content in a professional setting; and
  • Utilizing a web content management system (e.g., WordPress, Microsoft SharePoint, etc.)

Well qualified candidates will also have experience in:

  • Marketing or outreach experience for statewide programs or initiatives; or
  • Making policy recommendations; or
  • Event planning and coordination.
