WVU ESPORTS | WVU Esports includes a varsity‑level collegiate program that competes nationally across multiple titles and is committed to sustained competitive excellence and structured player development. The program fields organized varsity teams supported by dedicated coaching, training, and operational infrastructure, while also encompassing a student gaming club and academic offerings within the WVU School of Sport Sciences. WVU Esports emphasizes competitive performance and holistic student‑athlete development that provides opportunities for growth in competition, leadership, and academic engagement within evolving esports and sports industries.
POSITION SUMMARY | This is a 9-month Graduate Service Assistant (GA) position with potential opportunity for summer employment. The GA will support the WVU Esports Program with a primary focus on content creation, live broadcasting, and digital engagement within a varsity esports environment. This position is embedded within a nationally competitive collegiate esports program and involves hands‑on participation in the planning, scheduling, and execution of live streams, broadcasts, and multimedia content for WVU Esports platforms. The GA will assist in supervising and mentoring a student broadcast team, contribute on‑camera for live broadcasts and video features, and collaborate closely with esports staff to develop creative storytelling for our live fan engagement initiatives. Additional responsibilities include engaging with followers across WVU Esports social media channels, supporting day‑to‑day program operations, and contributing to various functions as needed within the esports team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate with the Director and coaches to develop and manage schedules for live broadcast matches
- Plan, staff, and oversee live broadcasts, including supervising student interns, production staff, and on‑air talent
- Operate and support live broadcast production using OBS Studio and vMix
- Assist with the supervision and mentoring of student interns, including those enrolled in for‑credit academic courses
- Support the development of competitive and academic marketing content for WVU Esports social media platforms, including TikTok, X, Instagram, and YouTube
- Support esports events and activations, including LANs, watch parties, and team travel
- Deliver data-driven stream reports, including attendee feedback, goal attainment, and improvement recommendations
- Support recruitment and outreach initiatives, including high school and collegiate camps, LANs, and campus tours
- Teach one eight‑week online course per year in the WVU School of Sport Sciences, as needed
- Participate in day‑to‑day esports operations and additional program functions as assigned
- Assist with summer camps under a separate contract, as coordinated with the supervisor
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of live production and broadcast technologies, including vMix, OBS Studio, Video Ninja, and Unreal Engine, Adobe light room, aftereffects, premier pro, and in design
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to meet established deadlines
- Ability to stay current with and apply social media marketing trends, platforms, and industry best practices
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new skills and adapt to evolving technologies and workflows
- Valid U.S. driver’s license
WORK SCHEDULE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Availability to work nights and weekends and travel overnight as required
- Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 40 pounds for events, broadcasts, and activations
