Accounting Apprenticeship

About Vast

Vast builds modern operational platforms for entrepreneurs in the gaming space. We’re operators first, designing end-to-end software that simplifies complex, regulated, high-stakes operations so terminal operators and administrators can focus on growing their businesses. Our work lives at the intersection of technology, compliance, and real-world execution, with products used daily by operators who depend on reliability, efficiency, and clarity.

Vast is part of a founder-led portfolio backed by Highland Holdings, giving apprentices rare exposure to experienced operators, direct access to decision-makers, and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully from day one. We value progress over perfection, move fast, learn faster, and prioritize work that delivers real outcomes—not vanity projects.

About the Program

The Vast Apprenticeship Program is a one-year, rotation-based experience designed for high-performing candidates who want real responsibility, not observation. Apprentices begin embedded with Vast, working directly with operators, engineers, and product leaders on projects that impact live systems and real clients. Over the course of the year, you will rotate across Highland Holdings’ operating companies, including Lucky Lincoln Gaming and Midwest Real Estate, gaining rare cross-functional exposure to how a diversified, founder-led portfolio operates. You’ll be expected to think critically, execute independently, and clearly communicate your work and results.

What You’ll Do

This apprenticeship provides hands-on exposure to real accounting and finance operations across Vast and the broader Highland Holdings portfolio. You will begin with Vast, supporting financial systems, reporting, and process work, then rotate into additional operating companies throughout the year.

  • Own defined workstreams within Vast’s financial operations, including reconciliation, reporting support, and transaction documentation
  • Support month-end close activities, data validation, and financial process documentation
  • Assist with ERP and financial system workflows, including testing, issue logging, and controls documentation
  • Prepare executive-ready reporting packages and financial summaries for leadership
  • Rotate across Highland Holdings’ operating companies (Lucky Lincoln Gaming, Midwest Real Estate) to gain exposure to diverse business models and finance functions
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and propose practical recommendations

What You’ll Deliver

  • Documented financial workflows and process guides across one or more operating companies
  • Reconciliation and reporting outputs actively used by the finance team
  • Issue logs, test results, and recommendations related to financial systems
  • A final presentation summarizing contributions, insights, and recommendations across your rotation

Who You Are

  • Rising senior or recently completed a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or Information Systems
  • Strong academic performance
  • Precise, detail-oriented, and systems-minded; you notice when numbers don’t add up
  • Comfortable working with structured data, financial documentation, and operational workflows
  • Adaptable and curious; eager to learn how multiple business models operate from the inside
  • Capable of contributing value on day one with appropriate guidance

Strong performers will be considered for permanent roles within the Highland Holdings portfolio.
