Communications Intern

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Intern for the Communications Department will assist staff as needed in day-to-day external and internal government communication efforts. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Assist the Communications Department as directed by the Director of Policy & Communications, Deputy Director of Communications, Digital Media Specialist, Communications Associate and/or other staff. 

• Assist in producing digital and physical content, including but not limited to, videos, photographs, graphics, webpages, social media posts, podcasts, newsletters, etc. as needed. 

• Assist in the preparation and execution of press conferences, media events, emergency events, Commissioners’ meetings, expos, fairs, etc. both on and off-site. 

• Assist in preparing information and research materials. 

• Assist in drafting press releases, social media posts, e-mails, newsletters, proclamations, letters of commendation and other documents. 

• Observe/shadow multiple County employees and officials and train in a variety of tasks related to providing information services to the public. 

• Perform administrative duties, maintain physical and electronic files, organize documents, photocopy, scan, etc. as needed 

• Answer phone inquiries, direct calls, and provide basic County information when needed. 

• Perform similar or related duties as assigned/required. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• High School graduate or equivalent; must be enrolled in an accredited university/college program to receive credit. 

• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite 

• Must be 18 years of age 

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

• Self-directed and able to work without supervision 

• Eager and able to tackle new projects and ideas
