Environmental Monitoring Technician I (Temporary)

Job Summary

The Nebraska Mesonet operates more than 70 stations in 49 counties to monitor the environment. These observations include air and soil temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, precipitation, solar radiation, and soil moisture.

As an Environmental Monitoring Technician I (Temporary), you will:

  • Pour concrete/install corral panels
  • Install sensors and station equipment
  • Wire sensors and station equipment
  • Preparation of material/equipment for field work
  • Drive truck and trailer


You will work with environmental sensors – air temperature, precipitation, wind, solar radiation, pressure, soil moisture and temperature, cameras, snow depth, and air quality, wiring sensors and station equipment, solar panel and battery power source/hookup, and proper station setup, siting, and more!

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma plus one year of experience installing or maintaining outdoor electronic equipment or related experience. Additional completed relevant education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
  • Must have valid drivers license and meet University driver eligibility requirement.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to work in a team, with a goal-oriented mindset.
  • Able to work outdoors in hot, humid conditions
  • Perform rigorous manual labor, including lifting 50+ pounds, climbing ladders on a regular basis, and digging sensors into ground by hand.
  • Ability to safely operate handheld power equipment and tools, such as drills, trenchers, grinders, push mowers, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:

  • Ability to drive truck and trailer.

Posted Salary

$18.00/hr minimum
