Golf Course Maintenance Worker

The NMU Golf Course is Hiring for the 2026 Season

Position Overview

The NMU Golf Course is seeking motivated student employees for the 2026 season. We offer start date flexibility, time-off guarantees, targeted career development opportunities, and FREE Golf. This seasonal role involves being trained in various skills related to the maintenance and upgrading of our 18-hole golf course. We are able to train all interested individuals, including those who lack previous experience working on a golf course.

Position Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a registered NMU student enrolled in at least 4 credits for the Fall 2026 semester
  • Must consider transportation options before applying, as the course is located in Harvey (125 Chocolay Downs Golf Drive), approximately 8 miles from campus.

Positions Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Briefly, the things you can expect to learn while working at the NMU Golf Course include:

  • Operating a riding mower, tractor, utility vehicle, and other specialized equipment.
  • Specialized turf management practices.
  • Foundational experience with soil and turf grass science, regenerative agriculture, and integrated pest management.
  • Basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills.

Position Responsibilities

  • Perform mowing and general maintenance of the golf course grounds.
  • Assist in the setup and upgrading of course features.
  • Maintain equipment and utility vehicles as directed.
  • Collaborate with the grounds team to ensure the course remains in top condition for the 2026 season.

Schedule and Hours

  • Flexibility: We will work around your summer schedule and are flexible with time-off needs.
  • Hours: Shift options range from 8 to 40 hours per week (maximum 24 hours per week during the academic semester).
  • Availability: Most weekends off; maximum of 5 days worked in a given week.
