Process Engineering Intern

Schneller is a global manufacturer of specialty decorative and functional surface materials used in aerospace and other high-performance applications. Our products combine advanced chemistry, engineered films, and precision manufacturing to deliver lightweight, durable, and highly customized interior surfaces for aircraft and other demanding environments.

We are seeking a motivated Process Engineering Intern to support manufacturing, quality, and product development initiatives in a fast-paced industrial environment. This internship provides hands-on exposure to real production systems with rotations across key engineering functions.

You will work directly with engineers, operators, and cross-functional teams to improve safety, quality, throughput, and process capability. This is not a shadowing role — interns are expected to contribute meaningfully to projects that impact live manufacturing operations.

Internship Rotations & Areas of Focus

Interns will rotate through one or more of the following focus areas:

1) Process Quality

  • Support root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methods
  • Assist with data collection and statistical analysis
  • Update control plans, engineering guidelines, and work instructions
  • Participate in corrective and preventive action projects

2) Research & Development (R&D) and Scale-up

  • Assist with new product trials and pilot runs
  • Support material and process characterization testing
  • Collect and analyze experimental data
  • Contribute to scale-up and release-to-manufacturing activities

3) Operations Support

  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Support equipment optimization and troubleshooting
  • Develop process maps and visual workflows
  • Assist with cost reduction and productivity initiatives

4) Automation Systems

  • Support manufacturing data collection and reporting systems
  • Assist with equipment validation and integration projects
  • Work with engineers on controls, sensors, and automation improvements
  • Help analyze production metrics and develop dashboards
  • Participate in equipment installation and commissioning efforts

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a B.S. in Engineering (Chemical, Materials, Industrial, Mechanical, or related field)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Interest in manufacturing, process improvement, or product development
  • Comfortable working both on the production floor and in an office/lab setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
