JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Boathouse Manager
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director
SUPERVISES Boathouse Attendants/Instructors
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for the successful operation and member satisfaction of all boating programs. This position supervises safe, clean and appealing club boating facilities, service and assistance to the membership as well as performs all of the duties of a boathouse attendant/instructor as necessary.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff.
- Formulates weekly work schedules and rotation schedules for all boathouse employees.
- Purchases and sells boathouse equipment.
- Maintains a current inventory of boathouse equipment.
- Registers members at the boathouse and charges for all guests, lessons, etc.
- Provides necessary orientation and training for boathouse staff.
- Enforces club rules of safety and conduct.
- Plans and directs special events.
- Plans and executes programs such as private and group sailing, rowing and boating fun lessons and summer camps.

- Represents the club in activities as required.
- Orders boathouse staff uniforms.
- Facilitates docking schedules for oversized vessels or vessels with special needs.
- Maintains and keeps all necessary records concerning boathouse attendance, maintenance concerns, accident reports, problem member reports, boathouse attendants and instructor schedules, time charts, etc.
- Develops and implements boathouse procedures.
- Performs on an as needed basis, all of the duties of a Boathouse Attendant/Instructor. Duties listed below beginning with item 17.
- Checks out boats to eligible members and assists them in getting on and off the water.
- Keeps a log of boaters on the water and tracks their progress at all times to ensure their safety.
- Provides first aid for minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises incurred by boathouse users.
- Maintains the orderliness and cleanliness of the boathouse and its equipment.
- Assists in docking member’s boats, ensuring that docking vessels meet the sizing requirements for each slip. Displays appropriate dock passes and ensures that they are safely cross-tied.
- Ensures that only club membership and their guests tie-up and enter the club grounds via the lake.
- Assists in organizing and facilitating rowing/sailing clinics and private rowing/sailing lessons for members as directed by the Boathouse Manager or other instructors.
- Assists in organizing and facilitating Summer Boating Fun classes as directed by the Boathouse Manager and other instructors.
- Assists in organizing Sailing/Rowing Clinics and private lessons for members as directed by the Boathouse Manager and other instructors.

- Checks first aid supplies and reports items that need to be ordered or replenished.
- Keeps all docks clean and clear of goose excrement, garbage, deceased animals, Lake Weed, and safety hazards.
- Maintains safety on the water, performing rescues if necessary.
- Reports all complaints, emergencies, hazards or faulty equipment.
- Maintains all necessary class records as determined by the Boathouse Manager.
- Bills members for all lesson charges.
- Keeps the whalers and outboard engines in proper working order. Run them daily and refill/mixing gas with the proper oil ratio when needed.
- Facilitates any necessary repairs to boats or boathouse equipment.
- Straightens the Boathouse and dock areas at the end of the day.
- Maintains a courteous, polite and helpful relationship with all members and guests.
- Maintains all necessary records determined by the Athletic Director.
- Attends all meetings as directed by the Athletic Director.
ADDITIONAL WORK PERFORMED
- Assumes responsibility for and/or assists with other projects or duties as may be assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
Must be able to sit for periods of up to four (4) hours in length.
Must be physically able to perform required lifesaving techniques.
Must be able to perform extensive walking throughout the shift.
Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, twist and move items at unusual angles on an occasional basis.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Education and Experience: This position requires previous experience in rowing and/or sailing as well as prior teaching experience. Certified instructor status is preferred and may be required depending on the type of class being taught. Current CPR and First Aid is required and AED certification is a plus.
