New Explorations into Science Technology and Math (NEST+m) is New York City’s only citywide Gifted and Talented public school for Kindergarten through 12th grade. NEST+m is consistently ranked one of the best schools in New York. We offer an academically challenging curriculum designed to produce young scholars who are distinguished by their intellectual capabilities, communication skills, capacity for leadership, ethical values, and readiness to help the betterment of the world at large.

This position is for the 2025-26 school year, starting as soon as possible. We seek enthusiastic and inspired with an interest in early childhood education and development. We prefer that candidates have a bachelor’s degree and at least one year of experience with elementary education, not including nanny or babysitting work.

While duties will vary for each position, they often include:

Supporting the teacher with lessons

Helping to facilitate a calm, positive, and productive classroom environment

Working with students in small groups for reading, writing, and math

Assisting with photocopying, grading tests and homework

Accompanying students to and from specialized classrooms

Proctoring exams, if applicable

Helping with arrival and dismissal

Supervising students during lunch, transitions, and outdoor recess (year-round)

Assisting the teacher in myriad ways throughout the school day

NEST+m PTA raises funds to hire Teacher Assistants (TAs) for grades K-5. This position is fully funded by NEST+m PTA.

TAs are vital members of the Lower Grades and are fully immersed in the classroom and school community. NEST+m’s Teacher Assistants work from September - June at the Lower East Side school campus.

The regular school day schedule spans the full week from approximately 8:15am - 2:35pm. School will be held in-person, full time. TAs also work weekly breakfast/arrival duty starting at 7:45am on a rotating schedule. TAs must be punctual and have good attendance.

Pay is $18/hour. Health insurance, accrued sick days, and other benefits are available.

Candidates must pass a DOE background check. First-round screening interviews will be conducted by phone. Candidates must interview in person.
