Engineering Lab Internship (Summer 2026)
Summary:
Aquatech is a global leader in water treatment and critical minerals processing technology. The company's 45-year history in process technology has allowed the company to master refining of lithium for various Li-ion battery chemistries. With its recent acquisition of Li-Pro, a commercially proven direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology, Aquatech has developed the PEARL platform (Purification, Extraction, and Refining of Lithium), a full flowsheet solution for lithium extraction from brine to battery-grade quality. Aquatech is working to commercialize the PEARL platform.
Currently, Aquatech has an immediate need for a Engineering Intern in our Canonsburg, PA office. This person will operate in Process Engineering supporting pilot-scale testing.
Summary:
This role provides hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting pilot equipment, collecting and analyzing process data, and supporting scale-up efforts for industrial separation systems. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers and technicians in a fast-paced applied engineering environment focused on real-world deployment.
Job Description:
- Assist with setup, operation, and monitoring of pilot-scale process equipment
- Support integrated system testing and troubleshooting activities
- Collect, log, and analyze process data (flows, pressures, temperatures, chemical dosing, etc.)
- Support mass balance calculations and performance tracking
- Assist with laboratory sample preparation and analytical testing
- Help maintain equipment, organize lab space, and update SOPs
- Participate in safety meetings and contribute to safe laboratory practices
- Support preparation of technical summaries and internal reports
Skill Requirements:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic understanding of mass balances and fluid systems
- Experience with excel and additional data analysis tools.
Internship:
Aquatech internships are full time, in-office positions (five days per week, 40 hours per week). The internship program is temporary employment that lasts for a maximum duration of ninety (90) days. Successful completion of this internship will provide you with invaluable skills in the water treatment and lithium processing industries and make a compelling addition to your professional journey.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or related field with graduation expected no later than June 2027.
- Research experience from coursework or previous internship required.
