LEAVE REPLACEMENT - VIIs (2nd grade)
City and Country School seeks a Group Teacher for a leave replacement, Fall semester of the 2026-27 school year.
The Lower School Group Teacher reports to the Division Director and is an integral part of the teaching faculty. The Lower School Group Teacher approaches instruction with an interdisciplinary approach, finding authentic ways to connect course materials to student’s understandings of social studies. Our Teachers bring warmth, patience, and understanding to the classroom every day, encouraging children to learn and grow. This is a bargaining unit position.
Responsibilities
- Encourage lifelong thinking and exploration for students through various open-ended materials; blocks, paint, clay, paper, wood, sand, and water
- Develop, revise, and teach lower school curriculum (nursery through second grade)
- Collaborate with Specials Teachers, Specialists, and Division Heads to find ways to integrate instruction with other curricular subjects, namely social studies
- Maintain an equitable and inclusive learning environment
- Communicate effectively and establish strong working partnerships with families, students, colleagues, and administrators
- Write reports and conduct Parent/Teacher conferences
- Provide curriculum updates to Learning Specialists to support ongoing education
- Attend weekly staff meetings
Requirements
- Desire for ongoing professional development
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field required, Masters degree preferred
- 3-5 years experience teaching with a progressive approach
- Professional field experience preferred
- Developmental knowledge of and experience with elementary aged children
- Experience developing and revising curriculum with an integrative approach
- Willingness to work in close collaboration with colleagues and children
- Familiarity with integrated, experiential, progressive education
- Experience developing and revising curriculum with an integrative approach
- Commitment to creating a culture of equity and inclusion
- Effective classroom management skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
This position has a salary range of $32,257 - $60,636 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This full-time is in-person five days per week at the school’s campus in Manhattan’s West Village.
