As the Technology Instructor you will work with students and consumers who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing and DeafBlind. You will be responsible for implementing each student’s goal and documenting their progressin Salesforce/DISCO. You will work with otherinstructors to ensureeach student receives appropriate instruction in the area of technology. You will partake in the evaluation team, feedback and program review meetings with prepared documents on your student’s progress.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science,Computer Programming, Information Technology, Business, Deaf Education or related fields
  • Professional experience in assistive technology, computer science, computer technology, education/teaching, rehabilitation instruction, information technology training, or related fields
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in assistive technology including computer serviceand maintenance
  • Must possess advanced skillsin MS Office Suite (Excel,PowerPoint, Word, etc)
  • Must have experience in the use of assistivetechnology (AT) for individuals who are Deaf, hard of hearing, Blind, Low Vision and/or DeafBlind
  • Must possess a Sign LanguageProficiency Interview (SLPI) of INTERMEDIATE according to the AIDB SLPI evaluation upon hire and provide documentation of the same (SLPI available through AIDB)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Master’s degree in ComputerScience, Computer Technology, Deaf education, or related fields
  • Minimum of two (2) yearsworking with Deaf and Hard of Hearingconsumers in the field of technology
  • Knowledge of assistivetechnology including a background in the use of CCTV’s,screen magnifiers, screen readers (JAWS, etc.) and Braille devices

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must obtain a SLPI score of Advanced within thirty-six (36) months of hire date
  • Must demonstrate softwareknowledge by obtaining MOS (Microsoft OfficeSpecialist) certification within twelve (12) months of hire date
  • Must be familiarwith using and maintaining Microsoftoperating systems and Microsoft Office software
  • Provide instruction to students in the area of Alabama Career Essentials (ACE)
  • Provide instruction to students on utilizing Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
  • Must be familiar with or become familiarized with assistive technology designated to accommodate consumers and students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind
  • Provide information and resources to consumers about assistive technology
  • Assist with special projectsrelated to AT services as requested
  • Prepare and enter monthly progressreports and maintaindocumentation of servicesand attendance in Salesforce/DISCO
  • Evaluate students and share results during Feedback meetings
  • Develop Individual Program Plans (IPP)
  • Participate in the weekly Program Review meetings
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of technology equipment and devices in the classroom
  • Must participate in professional development opportunities related to an understanding of vision, hearing, and dual sensory loss along with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Must be willingto attend ongoingprofessional development, attend workshops, conferences, and other staff development opportunities
  • Complete AIDB trainingon Deafness, Low Vision, DeafBlindness, and Multiple Disabilities within twelve (12) months of hire date
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid for by AIDB.
