Upward Bound Del Valle Summer Session (2025-2026) Foreign Language Instructor

Job Summary 

Position is contracted only for the summer component of the program. This is a grant funded position. Continuation of this position is contingent upon grant funding.

Reports to the Director of the Upward Bound Del Valle Program.

The Foreign Language Instructor will be responsible for facilitating classes in a foreign language subject.  The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing students' abilities in their respective content areas, contributing to their overall academic success.

 

Important information for applicants:

  • Mandatory Training Dates: May 26th – May 29th, 2026 (Texas State University Campus)
  • Time Commitment: May 26th – July 10th, 2026, Monday – Friday, (8-5 timeframe).
  • This is a grant funded position. This position is contingent on the availability of grant funding.
  • Applicants selected for hire must pass a Texas State University background check, and background checks from applicable school districts.

Evaluation Process: Summer Program Instructors will be evaluated on their performance at the end of the summer session by the Grant Director.

Duties

  • Administer Pre and Post exams to assess student progress.
  • Provide instruction to small classes of approximately 15-20 students using a variety of teaching methods.
  • Plan, organize, and deliver interactive lessons and lesson plans to contribute to students' educational development.
  • Maintain discipline and encourage participation in the classroom.
  • Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Maintain regular communication with Upward Bound Director regarding students’ academic performance.

To attend Upward Bound staff meetings as requested and fulfill administrative duties as assigned.

On Campus Job Location 

  • On the TXST San Marcos Campus, classroom locations depending on campus availability.

Direct Supervisor

  • Upward Bound Del Valle Program Director.

Work Schedule 

  • May 26th – July 10th, 2026, Monday – Friday, (8am-5pm timeframe).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, or foreign language required. 
  • Proficiency in applying current education and instructional theories, methodologies, techniques, and principles.
  • Effective communication skills using various media.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in technology use.
  • Judgment, tact, patience, sensitivity, and flexibility in working with high school students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in the relevant content area
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate 
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish
  • Demonstrated motivational and organizational skills.
  • Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Experience with assessment instruments and interpretation of results.

  • Summer Program Instructors will be evaluated on their performance at the end of the summer session by the Grant Director.
