Legal and Claims Internship
Global is one of the most respected names in aviation and aerospace insurance. We offer many types of coverage like General Aviation, Aerospace Manufacturers, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Space & Satellite, and much more. We are looking for an intern to join our company in the summer of 2026 in our Morris Plains, NJ office (35-hour workweek). You will have the opportunity to work in our energetic Legal and Claims department! This role will assist the US Legal and Claims Department. The role will assist the US Legal Department with conducting legal and statutory research across multiple platforms, analyze case law and court decisions relevant to aviation, liability, and insurance, and support underwriting and wordings departments. They will also draft concise summaries, memos, and reference materials to assist internal stakeholders. The role will also support the US Claims Department in handling first & third-party bodily injury & property damage claims and lawsuits in accordance with Company policies. Specific duties are listed below:
Legal & Compliance Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research using LexisNexis and Westlaw
- Research case law interpreting insurance policy language
- Perform statutory research for the Underwriting, Wordings, and Claims teams
- Monitor court decisions impacting aviation, liability, and insurance law
- Draft summaries, memos, and reference materials for internal stakeholders
Claims Responsibilities
- Assist with efficiently resolving complex, severe exposure claims using high service-oriented file handling
- Help evaluate liability, damages, coverage, and exposure
- Assist with negotiation preparation and settlement strategies
- Set up and maintain claim files; review and respond to incoming claim documentation
- Communicate with insureds, brokers, and claimants to obtain necessary information
- Assist in managing outside counsel on litigated matters
- Perform research and complete tasks as assigned
- Assist with investigation of claims including, obtaining witness statements, investigating reasonableness of a claim, surveying loss or retaining appropriate external investigation resources
- Assist with preparation of claims review materials for presentation to insureds, brokers, and insurers
Skills/Experience:
- Holds a Bachelor's degree
- Is currently enrolled in law school
- Will have completed the first year of Legal Research and Writing coursework by the start of the internship
- Thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys contributing to a dynamic, energetic team.
- Demonstrates the ability to analyze issues with a long-term perspective and recommend appropriate courses of action
- Possesses excellent written/verbal communication skills
Pay Range
Anticipated Pay Range For This Role is
$20.00 - $25.00
This pay range represents the anticipated hourly rate for this position. Individual compensation is based on various factors unique to each candidate including but not limited to relevant experience, geography, and skill set.
