Internship Description: 

We are seeking an Intern, Data Analyst to join our Information Technology Department. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting data-driven decision making across the organization. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a mission-driven organization committed to innovation, sustainability, and leadership in the clean energy sector. 

The role is based at our Reno office and reports to the Digital and Data Operations Manager. Occasional travel to other LAC offices, project sites, or vendor locations may be required. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Complete a minimum of 360 hours of work as an intern (32-40 hours per week, 9 weeks minimum) 
  • Data Analysis & Reporting 
    • Assist in collecting and validating data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy and completeness. 
    • Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in operational and business data. 
    • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations to communicate findings to stakeholders. 
    • Support ad-hoc data requests and analytical projects as assigned by team members and leadership. 
  • Data Management & Quality 
    • Assist with data entry, migration, and integration tasks across enterprise systems. 
    • Help document data sources, definitions, and processes to support data governance efforts. 
    • Identify and escalate data quality issues, recommending improvements where appropriate. 
    • Support the maintenance and organization of shared data repositories and file structures. 
  • Collaboration & Communication 
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights. 
    • Present findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
    • Participate in team meetings, project planning, and knowledge-sharing sessions. 
    • Build and maintain trusted relationships across teams while supporting LAC’s Purpose, Vision, and Values. 
  • Process Improvement 
    • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive data tasks and improve efficiency. 
    • Assist in developing standardized templates and procedures for recurring analyses. 
    • Perform other duties as assigned. 
    • Builds and maintains trusted relationships across all teams while championing a culture that reflects and supports our Purpose, Vision, and Values 
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

The Data Analyst Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role is designed to provide practical exposure to data analysis, reporting, and business insights while working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative environment. 

By the end of the internship, the Data Analyst Intern will have developed a stronger understanding of data analysis techniques, reporting tools, and how data supports strategic decision-making within a business environment. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate OR graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno after the Spring ‘26 semester  
  • Spring ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for Nevada Career Studio Sponsored Internships 
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Completion of coursework in statistics, data analysis, or a related quantitative discipline. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including formulas, pivot tables, and charting. 
  • Basic knowledge of SQL for querying relational databases. 
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language for data analysis (Python or R preferred). 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to manage time effectively and work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms. 
  • Exposure to cloud-based data platforms or data warehouse concepts. 
  • Familiarity with ERP systems or enterprise business applications. 
  • Interest in or coursework related to mining, energy, sustainability, or industrial operations. 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern: 

Monday – Friday 7am – 4pm
