Failure Analysis Intern
The Opportunity
The Failure Analysis Internship will allow a potential candidate to gain hands-on experience with failure analysis (FA) lab equipment and tools for semiconductor integrated circuits (ICs). Specifically, with this internship we are looking for an individual to take a key role in developing new in-house automated test equipment using the NI – PXI platform. During your internship, you will have exposure to multiple other engineering groups within the organization, including systems engineering, design engineering, product validation engineering, and quality engineering.
What You Will Do
- Integrate with the FA team, learn and perform the verification of failure (VOF) customer return process, and become exposed to standard FA procedures.
- Develop test software using Python and LabVIEW to interface with the PXI equipment to test multiple unique Allegro semiconductor devices.
- Create and manage test program documentation.
- Test, troubleshoot, and debug test hardware and software.
- Participate in weekly update meetings concerning progress towards PXI test program development.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to enable development of PXI test software and hardware communication.
What You Will Need
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with additional relevant programming coursework. Cumulative 3.0/4.0 GPA, or higher.
- Experience with or exposure to scripting languages such as Python, LabVIEW, and MATLAB.
- Interest in or exposure to test automation equipment, especially the NI - PXI.
- Proficiency with bench level test equipment (i.e., DC power supplies, oscilloscopes, multi-meters).
- Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with teammates across technical and non-technical groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Verilog or other HDLs.
- Familiarity with communication protocols (i.e., SPI, I2C).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and willingness to collaborate with other engineers.
- Strong curiosity, willingness to learn, and problem-solving mindset.
- Coursework providing knowledge and background in semiconductor processing, process control methodology and/or device failure analysis.
