Production Tech Intern (Happy Mushroom Co, Pack Intern, Summer 206)

Internship Description: 

The Production Technician Intern will assist our production manager in various roles and projects at Happy Mushroom HQ - warehouse and laboratories. These roles will include assisting in various capacities of production from extraction to packaging to shipping. Throughout the term of the internship, the Production Tech. will gain a thorough understanding of the processes and logistics of running a mushroom extract laboratory, production flows, and the fulfillment aspect of running a (consumer packaged goods) CPG business. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Complete 180 hours of work as an intern (15 hours per week, 9-12 weeks) 
  • Assisting with and implementing the process of making tinctures and mushroom extract powders from start to finish. This includes learning to use and operate high tech lab equipment under supervision - ex: ultrasonic extractor, autoclaves, and freeze-dryers. 
  • Mixing, packaging and labeling products to be put into inventory. 
  • Stocking materials and running inventory. 
  • Cleaning of equipment and workspaces. 
  • Packing mail-orders to be shipped out to customers. 

 

Goals and Expectations of the Intern: 

  • To show up every day on time in order to fulfill the weekly production schedule. 
  • To wear proper PPE whenever necessary throughout the workday. 
  • To have a positive attitude and willingness to learn. 
  • To be able to work well under supervision and clear direction from the supervisor. 
  • Desire to work in a laboratory/warehouse environment. 

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate OR graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno after the Spring ‘26 semester  
  • Spring ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program 
  • Student must be enrolled in a major or minor program in the following colleges: 
    • Agriculture, Biotechnology, and Natural Resources (CABNR) 
    • Business 
    • Engineering 
    • Science 
    • Public Health/Orvis 
  • Detail oriented and good organization skills. 
  • Able to stay alert and focused for extended periods of time. 
  • Able to follow instructions and SOP's - including the ability to learn how to safely run laboratory 
  • equipment. 
  • Physically capable to perform manual tasks throughout the workday. 
  • Competent and coordinated when using fragile materials and equipment. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Background in chemistry or a related field. 
  • Experience working in a lab. 
  • Interest in mushrooms and/or functional mushroom products. 

 

Desired Schedule for Intern: 

Weekdays between the hours of 8am and 2pm. 

 

This internship requires interns to complete 180 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
