Health Science Teacher
Position Purpose
(Will teach students enrolled in Certified Nursing Assistant program)
This position develops and implements a health science instructional program that will effectively meet the needs of all students. Health science is a Career and Technology Education (CTE) Pathway in the Health Science Program for the state of South Carolina. Teaching candidates must possess at minimum a bachelor's degree in Health Education or Public Health Pathway plus appropriate work experience in a healthcare setting. Must posses or obtain a SC teaching credential in Health Science.
Essential Functions
- Completes required reports promptly and accurately.
- Accepts responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to school.
- Assumes responsibility for care of materials, equipment, and facilities.
- Assumes responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students committed to the teacher's care.
- Practices and promotes positive interaction with and among students.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for learning.
- Adapts and adjusts instructional presentation of subject content to students' needs and interests.
- Maintains and organizes programs of instruction based on effective long-range plans.
- Exhibits evidence of effective lesson planning.
- Utilizes a variety of appropriate materials and resources.
- Communicates the lesson objective and its importance to students.
- Utilizes appropriate and varied teaching techniques and learning activities both in class and out of class.
- Maintains an effective system of monitoring student progress and informs appropriate persons of such progress.
- Adheres to guidelines of confidentiality as outlined in federal and state laws and School Board Policies and Procedures.
- Maintains a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
- Serves as an optimal role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
- Works in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Maintains a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.
- Complies with all District and School policies and regulations.
- Pursues professional growth activities.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the subject being taught.
- Ability to relate positively to parents and other community representatives.
- Ability to demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication; thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage.
- Ability to demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to demonstrate classroom management strategies appropriate to the learning situation.
- Ability to assess individual needs and performance.
- Ability to address criticism in an appropriate manner and develop constructive outcomes
Qualifications/Certification/License:
- Registered Nurse preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
- South Carolina Certification in Health Science Technology.

Experience
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level and/or subject is a plus.
