UI REACH Mentor
Job description
Your responsibilities for the mentor position may include, but are not limited to:
- Promote person centered, individualized, support to college students with Intellectual and Cognitive Disabilities.
- Interact directly with UI REACH students in the residence halls, campus, community, at student organization events, in group settings as well as 1 to 1 meeting
- Provide social, navigation, and scheduling support to students participating in campus and community activities.
- Model and encourage acceptable social behaviors in peer-to-peer interactions and community settings.
- Establish and maintain rapport with UI REACH students serving as a role model in areas of personal appearance, communication, interpersonal skills, decision- making, and responsibility.
- Work 1 to 1 with 5-7 students to evaluate and work towards goals in individualized person-centered plan.
- Assist students with personal-centered planning action steps and goals.
- Maintain regular documentation of interactions, concerns, and growth.
- Assist students in developing and utilizing problem solving strategies.
- Attend semester kickoff trainings and once monthly training session to increase skills and competencies.
- Assist students with workplace readiness skills through navigation support and job coaching within internship settings.
- Aid students learning how to access and utilize community resources including Cambus and city bus services.
- Accurately record and submit timecard hours.
- Other duties as assigned to help students develop their social and independent living skills.
