Graduate Intern Accessibility

Job Summary: Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Graduate Intern to join our Accessibility Services team. The intern will assist in various capacities, supporting students with disabilities and ensuring they have the resources and accommodations necessary to succeed academically. This position provides an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience in university-level disability services, assistive technology, and student support strategies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Student Support and Accommodation Coordination:

  • Respond to student inquiries and assist incoming, transfer, and current students with the registration process to request accommodations.
  • Provide individual support to students, helping them develop academic support strategies as needed.
  • Identify, counsel, and advise students to facilitate requests for accommodations.
  • Assist with the transition of students with disabilities from their previous academic environment to CCSU.

 

Disability Documentation and Technology:

  • Process alternative format materials and textbook requests
  • Research and stay current on emerging disability-related assistive technology, best practices, and tools.
  • Train students on using assistive technology recommended by Student Disability Services.
  • Implement assistive technology such as specialty software, electronic books, and smart pens.

 

Exam Services and Administration:

  • Assist with the development of special instructional materials and/or the adaptation of existing materials as needed.
  • Assist with exam services and the exam administration process

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled as a part-time student in a graduate program at CCSU.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about assistive technologies.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially in compliance with FERPA.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work full-time including summer months.
