About the Role:
The Materials Technology Intern/Co-op will support the development, testing, and evaluation of advanced material systems within a fast-paced R&D environment. This role provides hands-on exposure to real-world engineering applications, cross-functional collaboration, and laboratory-based experimentation.
The selected candidate will work closely with experienced engineers and researchers to assist with material formulation, testing, data analysis, and technical documentation. This is an excellent opportunity for a Chemical Engineering student interested in materials science, polymers, product development, or applied research.
Key Responsibilities:
· Work in a cross-functional environment supporting R&D, manufacturing, and quality
· Conduct and develop new physical/chemical test methods to analyze raw materials, rubber compounds, and finished tire components
· Perform compound formulation trials and evaluate performance properties
· Material test method development
· Analyze test data and prepare technical reports on material performance
· Present findings to technical teams and management
· Follow all laboratory safety protocols

Qualifications & Requirements:
· Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering
· Interest in materials science, polymers, or product development
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Ability to work independently and in a team environment
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
· Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Akron, OH area for the duration of the internship/co-op
