The intern will work on the eBay AI-Platform team to define problem-statements and persona Jobs to be done (JTBD). They will prioritize technical and product-requirements based on the JTBD, validate approaches with stakeholders, and produce a clear, executable 6 to 8 month roadmap and prototype an experimental-design. This is a hands-on role that combines product thinking, AI systems understanding grounded on enterprise knowledge graphs.
Key responsibilities
● Conduct literature and competitive review on agentic reinforcement learning and reinforcement fine-tuning techniques for open source language models.
● Define user personas and use cases inside eBay where agentic fine-tuning with knowledge graph grounding creates measurable value.
● Map enterprise knowledge graph concepts and schemas to help model training, conditioning and retrieval-mechanisms.
● Design product goals, success metrics, and evaluation methodologies for agentic reinforcement fine-tuning experiments.
● Draft a prioritized product roadmap for prototyping and product ionization, including milestones, dependencies, risks, and resource needs.
● Specify system-level requirements for model training, inference, data pipelines, knowledge graph integration, and monitoring.
● Collaborate with engineering, ML research, data engineering, legal, and privacy teams to identify constraints and compliance requirements.
● Deliver a final report and presentation that includes research findings, recommended architecture options, a detailed 12 to 18 month roadmap, and a concrete experiment plan for the internship follow-up work.
● Build lightweight prototypes or experiment designs to demonstrate feasibility and to validate assumptions or partner with other interns to deliver a compelling demonstration.
Required qualifications
● Current enrollment in a Masters in Business Administration with technical background in Computer Science, Statistics, or related fields graduating December 2026 onwards
● Familiarity with modern large language models, fine-tuning paradigms, and reinforcement learning concepts.
● Understanding of knowledge graphs, graph schemas, entity linking, and methods for integrating knowledge into ML models.
● Strong interest in product management for ML systems and experience translating technical concepts into product requirements.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing clear, structured technical documents and presentations.
● Proven ability to run independent research investigations and to synthesize findings into actionable roadmaps.
● Comfort collaborating with engineering and research teams and managing cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications
● Prior internship or project experience working on language models, retrieval-augmented generation, or reinforcement learning.
● Experience with open source model ecosystems and tooling for fine-tuning and evaluation.
● Familiarity with enterprise knowledge graph tooling, such as RDF, or knowledge graph APIs and grounding agents with knowledge
● Exposure to model governance, evaluation metrics for hallucination reduction, or safety and compliance considerations for ML systems.
● Product or program management experience in a technical product environment.
Learning objectives and deliverables
By the end of the internship the intern will deliver:
1. A research briefing summarizing prior art in agentic reinforcement fine-tuning and knowledge graph grounding, with implications for eBay use cases.
2. A set of validated user personas and prioritized product use cases with clear value hypotheses and success metrics.
3. A product requirements document that specifies data, model, infrastructure, and monitoring needs.
4. A prioritized roadmap covering prototype, pilot, and initial production phases for the next 12 to 18 months with milestones and resource estimates.
5. An experiment plan or prototype design for agentic reinforcement fine-tuning with KG grounding, including evaluation criteria and baseline comparisons.
6. A final presentation to stakeholders including engineering, research, legal, and product leadership.
Program structure and mentorship
● The intern will be paired with a product manager and an ML research mentor on
the eBay AI Platform team.
● Weekly 1:1s with mentor and biweekly roadmap review sessions with
cross-functional partners.
● Access to engineering and data teams for prototype support.
● Midterm and final reviews to assess progress against deliverables.
Success metrics
● Quality and depth of research, clarity of product requirements, and realism of the
roadmap.
● Credibility of experiment design and evaluation plan.
● Stakeholder alignment achieved by the final presentation.
