Spring Education Intern

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is seeking current college students and recent graduates to fill up to two (2) positions as spring Education Interns. After two weeks of training, selected candidates will assist rangers with the busy spring field trip season. The interns will then pivot to primarily assisting the Interpretation Team with summer operations after the end of the school year in mid-June, although there will still be some youth field trips in the summer.

These internships will be at least ten (10) weeks long, with start dates in early May. Interns will typically work Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday, from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. There is the potential to extend these internships further into the summer, depending on candidate availability.

Duties include:

  • Leading field trips with students ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade
  • Presenting virtual and in-person curriculum-based lessons and activities on topics like ecology, ecosystem health, the National Park Service mission, and local history
  • Operating a state-of-the-art mobile planetarium dome during visits to local schools
  • Creating original content for the park’s social media platforms
  • Facilitating interpretive pop-ups and activity stations at events during the summer
