YourTango is seeking a creative and driven Editorial Intern to work closely with our dynamic editorial team. This internship provides hands-on experience in the digital publishing industry, where interns gain the opportunity to pitch, write, and edit content for publication while building a professional portfolio.

This role is perfect for aspiring journalists, creative writers, and digital publishing enthusiasts looking to sharpen their skills in a supportive, remote work environment.

NOTE: Typically our editorial internships focus on WRITING content for publication. Periodically we bring on editorial interns to help with BUILDING and INITIAL EDITING for other writers' content, but this is not our main focus, so if you are not interested in writing, please be clear on your application when applying (otherwise we will assume you want to write content).

Responsibilities:

  • Pitch article ideas and participate in editorial pitch meetings/chats.
  • Write a minimum of 8 articles per week.
  • Edit article submissions from other writers or partners.
  • Build articles in YourTango's content management system (training provided).
  • Source and edit images, memes, and graphics for articles.
  • Apply SEO techniques to articles (training provided).

Ideal Candidate:

  • Has strong writing and editing skills, with a creative flair.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment and can meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills via Slack and email.
  • Able to work collaboratively and take constructive feedback.
  • Passionate about digital publishing and online media.

Requirements:

  • Access to a reliable computer and internet connection.
  • Availability to work a set schedule (20 hours/week) during weekdays and business hours.
  • Ability to communicate in real-time during shifts via Slack, email, and calls.

What You'll Learn & Gain:

  • Real-world experience working in digital publishing and online journalism at a major media platform.
  • The opportunity to build a robust portfolio of bylined articles published for a wide online audience.
  • Hands-on training in SEO best practices, content management systems (CMS), and other essential digital publishing tools.
  • Practical experience in pitching, researching, and editing articles within a professional editorial workflow.
  • One-on-one mentorship and feedback from experienced editors and media professionals.
  • Opportunities to network and build relationships within a dynamic editorial team.

Supervision & Feedback:

  • Interns receive regular feedback and guidance through weekly/monthly check-ins with their supervisor and relevant team members.
  • Supervisors are experienced professionals with educational backgrounds and expertise in their respective fields.
  • If required by the intern's school, supervisors can complete mid-semester or end-of-semester evaluations. (Evaluation requests must be made at the start of the internship.)
  • Interns work closely with experienced team members to develop, pitch, and publish work that may be included in their professional portfolio.
  • Interns also have opportunities to network and collaborate with team members across multiple departments during their time with YourTango.

Eligibility & Compensation:

  • Must reside in the continental U.S. during the internship.
  • This internship provides a monthly learning stipend of $375 to support the intern’s educational experience. The stipend is not an hourly wage or salary and is not tied to the number of hours worked.
  • At the end of each completed month, interns submit a brief invoice confirming their participation during that period. Once received and approved, the stipend is issued via electronic bank transfer or PayPal.
  • This internship is structured as a learning-focused opportunity and follows the guidelines established under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the standards set by the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division.
