Protect the Nation’s Food Supply

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is hiring Consumer Safety Inspectors to help ensure that meat, poultry, and egg products sold across the United States are safe for consumers.

In this role, inspectors help identify food safety risks and ensure that unsafe products do not enter the food supply.

College graduates, or students that graduate in Spring 2026 qualify at entry-level or higher based on their college coursework or major alone — no prior professional work experience required.

Students and recent graduates with a bachelor’s degree, or coursework with at least 24 semester hours/credits in any combination of coursework in the Major’s listed below are encouraged to apply.:

  • Biology
  • Agriculture
  • Food Science 
  • Chemistry
  • Public Health 
  • Animal Science

Applicants with applicable work experience may apply and qualify at entry level, or higher, based on experience.

What You'll Do

  • Inspect food production facilities for compliance with federal food safety regulations
  • Verify sanitation and safe food handling practices
  • Observe production processes to identify potential food safety risks
  • Document inspection findings
  • Work with facility management to ensure compliance with federal standards
